My Not So Perfect Life

November 12th, 2009

Hi all.  My name is Abby and somehow I think some of you will understand my words better than anyone else.  I know you will get it better than my mom did, or my best friends, certainly better than the people in my neighborhood who think I have this perfect life.

Drug Addiction Stories My Not So Perfect LifeMy mom had me out of wedlock.  Then she got this white knight who rode in on a horse shaped like a cadillac and he put us in this fancy house in this fancy neighborhood.  I grew up hearing how lucky I was to be here like I didn’t have the right except by accident.

Want to hear about the real story now?  My NOT so perfect life? Wonderful stepdad in white knight armor was a closet drinker and pothead.  He got to the point where he wanted me to try it too so he could do things a stepdad isn’t suppose to do.  He said it was okay since he wasn’t my real dad.  Believe me, taking the pot was the only way to get through it.

Oh, yes, I tried to tell my mom but when she confronted him with it, he acted shocked.  Seeing that the pot was in my room, she believed him.  Until the day I got pregnant at fifteen and insisted on carrying the baby and putting him up for adoption.  I went to my aunt and told her that my stepdad was the father.  She called the authorities.  Naturally he denied it.  Of course, DNA proved me right and now that innocent little boy is living a life that he deserves with two parents who love him and where he really can have a perfect life.

As for me, I like to walk along the beach at night after studying.  I attend college now.  That little one is three years old.  I think about him a lot.  My mom?  She and I have not spoken since I moved in with my aunt.  She chose to believe him until the DNA results came in.  Then they divorced and she took off.

My aunt has been wonderful.  She helped me to stay clean during my pregnancy and afterwards. She lets me talk to her and she never judges me.  She has a small two bedroom apartment.  She is not rich but you want to know something?  She is the perfect guardian angel for me.  She showed me that there was life after marijuana.  Now I have a wonderful road ahead of me thanks to her.

Some of you understand that, don’t you?  Because you have been where I was, in a not so perfect life.
