What are the Positive Effects of Red Ribbon Week?
Red Ribbon Week is celebrated internationally now. It is a chance to bring awareness of not only the dangers of drugs but the unscrupulous nature of those who sell the drugs. It is a chance to celebrate our ability to say no and to refuse drugs and also to turn away from drugs once we have tried them.
The most positive effect is awareness. So very many people have had loved ones who have succumbed to drugs but many of them have made it through and back to being drug free. It brings awareness of drugs and the dangers of drugs to children and adults alike. At some point in their lives, children will be approached about drugs. The information they get and the impact Red Ribbon Week makes just may make enough of an impact to make them turn down the drugs.
Red Ribbon Week is about celebration. Why do we celebrate Red Ribbon Week? There are baseball games, community events and even small fairs which all have a positive effect. Drug abuse is gloomy and it is sad, but preventing even one life from being ruined by drugs is cause for celebration. Most communities participate fully in events. There are often poster and coloring contests and other fun things for the kids to do. There are also a variety of pamphlets on drug abuse and addiction as well as warning signs. It is basically an enjoyable time to bring attention to a devastating condition; drug abuse.
Red Ribbon Week offers children a chance to learn the dangers of drug abuse in a non-threatening environment. They can ask questions and get real answers appropriate for their age. It also is a friendly, welcoming environment in which many who are already addicted to drugs and alcohol feel comfortable seeking help. Life should be a celebration and any life free of drugs is a celebration. If Red Ribbon Week causes one child in the future to say no to drugs or causes one drug addict to seek treatment, it is all worth it. Red Ribbon Week serves to honor those people who have died trying to stop the drug cartels and the drug pipelines.
The positive effects of Red Ribbon Week are many. It is a chance to get out in the community, while at the same time, bring awareness to a deadly epidemic. Positive messages are sent urging being drug free or getting drug free.

yes, awareness is one of the most important parts of Red Ribbon Week. i think the sense of not being alone and part of a bigger community is equally important, don’t you?
