My Painful Oxycontin Trip – Part 1

October 13th, 2009

Oxycontin has caused far more pain in my life than it ever alleviated. I started out with a back injury and it really was quite painful. I couldn’t comfortably sit, stand or lie down. I’d had an injury like this before and the doctors had given me something else. This time, they gave me Oxycontin. They told me it was a narcotic, but I had taken Codeine before and never had a problem, so I wasn’t expecting one with this prescription. I couldn’t have been more wrong.

PrescriptionWhen I began taking the Oxycontin, it worked wonderfully. It eased the pain and it lasted a fairly long time. It just felt so good being pain free. It felt good to be able to sleep and sit without being in pain. The first week was great. Then the pain started to subside but I went back to the doctor for a refill on the Oxycontin. I got it too. With that bottle, I began to notice the “high” that can go along with Oxycontin. Since the pain wasn’t as bad, I got the double pleasure of being pain free and high all at the same time. It felt good. It felt so good that I went back for another refill even though my back pain was only a dull ache by then.

It still felt good, but it seemed to take so long to get any of the high from it. I read the bottle which specifically stated “do not chew or crush”. “Hmm, I thought; why not?” I took two pills and proceeded to chew them. Wow! There was no waiting for the high that time! That became my regular practice. Needless to say the addiction grew and I began having to visit other doctors for the prescriptions. I began to stay away from family and friends because they kept insisting I had “a problem”. I didn’t have any problem! I was doing great! This intense high that I got from the Oxycontin was incredible and I soon decided that having only one bottle on hand wasn’t enough. I had to have at least 2 bottles at all times. It was then that I decided to tempt fate and try chewing the Oxycontin and taking it with alcohol. Sure enough, the high was more than I expected. I was falling deeper and deeper into a pit of pain that would be far worse than anything I could have imagined.
