I Really Thought I had it Under Control – Part 1

March 23rd, 2011

Drug Addiction Stories I Really Thought I had it Under Control Part 1You know, looking back, it’s obvious that OxyContin changes the way a person thinks. In fact, it changes a lot about a person. I didn’t really know anything about Oxy until my boyfriend hurt himself at work and got a prescription for it. I noticed that it really helped to ease his pain… or maybe it didn’t and it just made him not care about the pain. Then I started to notice how relaxed and easy going he was after he took a pill. Out of curiosity, I took one, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Jake (my boyfriend) eventually recovered. He didn’t even finish his prescription for Oxy, so I finished it for him. No need for that money to go to waste, right? I even convinced him to get more from the doctor in case his back started hurting again. He put it in the medicine cabinet and forgot about it. But, I didn’t forget. I knew it was there and it made me very happy. I reasoned that I couldn’t be an addict since I only took 2 or 3 pills a day.

I would be high when Jake came home from work, and at first he thought it was funny. He stopped laughing pretty quickly though, when I asked him to go and get more OxyContin. He called me a “druggie” and pretty much blew it off until I kept bugging him to get more. He told me no. Actually, he told me “Hell no!” I figured I’d have to quit since he wouldn’t get any more, so I tried to just live without it. I thought about Oxy a lot, but was getting along without it. I really thought I had it under control.

A short time later, I had to go to the doctor to talk to him about allergy symptoms I was having. I don’t know what made me do it, but while I was there, I blurted out; “I fell down some steps and hurt my leg.” He couldn’t see anything wrong with it, (of course not… there WAS nothing wrong with it) but he gave me some OxyContin for the pain. I rushed… no, I broke land speed records getting to the pharmacy to fill that prescription. I didn’t even wait to get home to take 2 of the pills. I took them as soon as I got into my car.

My Painful Oxycontin Trip – Part 2

October 14th, 2009

The headaches and the nausea didn’t bother me at first. They weren’t bad and they were worth the incredible sensations I got from the Oxycontin. My family started to panic though because now that I was taking the Oxycontin with alcohol, apparently my breathing slowed down quite a bit and they kept waking me up to see if I was alive. I kept telling them “Yes, I’m alive, but you won’t be if you keep waking me up!” I just couldn’t understand what the fuss was about.

Drug Addiction Stories My Painful Oxycontin Trip Part 2My family started to panic though because now that I was taking the Oxycontin with alcohol, apparently my breathing slowed down quite a bit and they kept waking me up to see if I was alive.

I did feel kind of numb, but it really didn’t bother me. I remember when my brother fell down the steps and I saw him land there at the bottom. He had broken his nose and was bleeding all over the place. I just stared at him. My mother came running down the steps all panicked. She screamed at me “Why didn’t you help your brother”? What was I going to help him with? Sheesh, it was all being taken care of. I guess I should have cared more, but I didn’t. I took another dose of Oxy and a couple of shots of booze instead. In fact, I went back and took another pill just a couple minutes later. Who were these people to be disturbing MY good high?

When my mother came home from the hospital with my brother she lit into me. She said I was either going to have to stop the drugs or get out. She reminded me that I wasn’t working despite the fact that my back was fine now and all I did was lie around and take the drugs and alcohol. How the heck did she know about the alcohol? I was furious! Later that night the whole dang family came down and they had someone, some type of counselor with them. They all told me how they felt about my “problem” and how they wanted me to get clean or get out. Then my mother actually got up, got my Oxycontin and flushed it! Oh My God! How dare she? I flew into a rage. The counselor they had there took me by the shoulders and turned me toward a mirror on the wall.

“THIS is who you have become. THIS is what the Oxycontin has done to you”. I stared into that mirror not even recognizing the person I saw.

I went into drug rehab, which lasted a week and I checked out. I relapsed and went back into rehab. Detox was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. There were things that made it easier, but it was still a very difficult thing to go through. This time, I stuck with rehab and learned ways to deal with my depression and pain. I learned techniques to stay away from the pain pills and I was, in the end, determined to beat the Oxycontin addiction. I still crave the drug from time to time, but there are people and techniques to help me.

I never want to have to go through the pain that Oxycontin caused in my life again.

Mi Addiction es su Addiction – Part 2

September 29th, 2009

About midway into the movie, Josh grabbed his cola and took some of the Oxycontin he had bought, chewing them as directed. Jennifer noticed this and asked him what he was taking. He told Jennifer about the party and about how these “simple pain pills” made him feel. He offered some to Jennifer, who initially declined.

She started asking questions like “can they hurt you”?

“Nah,” replied Josh. They are pain pills, that’s all.

Before long, Josh was handing Jennifer some pills and instructing her to chew them. The two of them sat the rest of the night enjoying their high and wondering how they could have avoided this wonder drug all of this time. Josh took another pill a short time later because he felt the affects wearing off.

Drug Addiction Stories Mi Addiction es su Addiction Part 2Now it was Josh and Jennifer both taking the Opiate. As can be expected, their need for the drug increased and Josh kept buying. They began taking more and more until it came to a point where they took it first thing in the morning. Slowly, their behaviors began to change and their family’s noticed. They weren’t looking at all well, they had mood swings and sometimes it seemed they were barely breathing. Josh began to get defiant with his parents and suddenly informed them that he had no intention of going to college. His parents began to become very worried. Josh and Jennifer seemed to spend almost every evening either at parties or downstairs watching movies. Then his parents began noticing money missing from their purse and wallet. When there is only one child, there is no guesswork as to who is guilty. They knew it had to be Josh. When they confronted him, he flew into a rage. It was then that his mother decided to do some investigating.

While Josh was gone the next day, his mother paid a visit to his room. She found his little stash of Oxycontin and took one out to bring to the pharmacy with her. She set the pill down on the counter at the pharmacy and asked what it was. The pharmacist gave her a lot of information about Oxycontin, what it is used for and how it can be addictive.

She thanked him and proceeded home to call a drug addiction rehab.

“I want you to help me save my Son” she told the rehab counselor.

And that is exactly what they did. Josh was lucky his mother took action like she did. He wasn’t happy about it at first. In fact, he was furious. But, he went to rehab and convinced Jennifer to get help too. Today, Josh is an international interpreter and Jennifer is a drug rehab counselor.
